Winter 2017 classes

The best way to eat well is to cook! Learn delicious new recipes, explore new cuisines and enjoy our new classes.

We have three great new classes: Flavors of the Amalfi Coast, Zero Cooking, and Language in the Kitchen.

Information for these classes
Location: The kitchen of The First Church in Belmont Unitarian Universalist, 404 Concord Ave, Belmont.
Cost: Varies (see below); payable with credit card or PayPal.
Class size: minimum of 6, maximum of 8.
Ages: High school students and adults are welcome in all of these classes.
Equipment. Hands-on classes. Bring an apron and your favorite knives (packed safely). Bring plastic containers to take food home (if you don’t eat it in class).

Symphonie de Saveurs – A Symphony of Flavors

SouffleCombine your interest in cooking with your French language skills: this class will be taught in French.

From the delicate texture of the souffle to the bold flavors of the chicken in a pepper, tomato and spice sauce, and the sweetness of the tart, all your senses will be awakened by this delicious French menu.

Menu: Cheese soufflé, chicken basquaise with rice, mango tart tatin.

Vegetarian cookingA sophisticated vegetarian menu to bring some excitement to the table. You will love the vertical presentation of the verrines, the tastiness of the quiche and the delicacy of the apple tart.

Italian Tomato Sauces 101

PastaYou will be surprised by how easy it is and the few ingredients needed to create delicious flavors. Say goodbye to American-invented marinara sauce, and welcome authentic Italian sauces in your kitchen.

Menu: Basic tomato sauce with fresh basil, putanesca sauce (with olives and capers),  arrabbiata sauce, Amatriciana sauce with pancetta (from the town of Amatrice, recently destroyed by earthquakes).

About our instructors

Carmen Conte Sivers is a Belmont mom eager to share her passion for Italian food. She is an Italian teacher and a native of the Amalfi Coast in Italy.

Françoise Matte moved from France 15 years ago, loves to cook, try new recipes, eat and share meals mostly of French inspiration. She founded three cooking clubs and offered cooking classes for many years. Cecile and Francoise run French In The Kitchen cooking classes, dedicated to food lovers.

Cecile Penot, a French native from Paris and a foodie forever, has always been addicted to cooking and sharing her passion for it. She loves entertaining and preparing fresh simple meals for her family and friends and has been offering cooking classes for a long time.
